Renaissance nostalgia is a heavy thumb
Disney rankings are nostalgia audits. The Renaissance bloc (Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan) holds S on soundtrack memory as much as filmmaking — songs are doing at least half the ranking work. Modern entries fight uphill: Encanto and Moana broke through on music again (notice the pattern), while technically-superior films without a defining song settle in A. The pre-1960 classics are ranked more like monuments than movies; docking Snow White feels illegal even when the pacing argues otherwise.
